First Thursday

I'm going - are you?

Why am I awake at 4:20??

It's because I woke up at 3am with the puppies...  At least I know I'll sleep tonight...

Above is one of my favorite pieces from First Thursday last night  it's called Little Bear (I think) and it's by Chauney Peck.  She has a show at Soil right now.  I like her work a lot.... I'm not going to get into some Art Critique about why I like this and why I like that (I sound dumb when I do...)... I just know what pleases me and this does the trick!  Chauney's work in general is bright, colorful and whimsical (is that right???)... I just like it.

Jennifer Campbell's show Point No Point is good as well... it got a Stranger Suggests on Slog yesterday.  I may be biased because we're friends...  it's nice to finally see her work - she was always so busy with other peoples work while she was at Crawl Space I don't think she really had a lot of free time to work on her own.

Overall First Thursday was good.  I just wish it would start at 4pm so I could be home at a reasonable hour and not feel like a dud.  It's nice to see people I know - It makes me want to make more work... now I just have to find the time...  I forgot to hit a few shows while I was there... I'll have to take the bus down to a few shows next week (during lunch).

Last night I was sitting there at Jenn's show and a girl who works in my office building walked in.  I introduced myself to her... it turns out that she is an artist that I know of... it's weird when you know of someone and then you see them in a totally different context...

Maybe I'll start a Sunday Potluck for artists... I like potlucks...

Okay, another reason I'm up so early is that I have something going on with my eye.  It started hurting last night while I was reading in bed... the other Jen Towner will be happy to know that I was glancing through the Secret... that crazy mumbo jumbo book that I think is a bit strange...   well... my eyeball started feeling like I had an eyelash stuck in it... it doesn't - but it still feels like it this morning.  I want to take my eyeball out of the socket and rinse it off... argh.

One plus to getting up so early is that I was able to watch Survivor and I know who was voted out last night...

I suppose I could watch Lost right now and be all caught up...  I suppose I could go to the gym.. I suppose I could go back to sleep for an hour...

Today I have to work, go to the Chiropractor, and then to Pilates.  I also have to get to my studio sometime and pick up supplies for screen printing tomorrow.  I'm going to teach my best friends daughter how to do it.  I love doing it - it's a lot of fun... and it's easy - and a good skill to have.

Another plus to getting up early is having a lot of extra time to work on your blog posts....

I hope you all have a good day and I hope I can make it to 3:30 pm when I have to leave for my Chiropractic appointment.

Outerwear and the Northwest.

I have become an outerwear snob. I have noticed that far too many people in the pacific northwest think that a ski parka is a suitable replacement for a coat when you're wearing a dress. You all look like schlubs! Stacy London would have a field day here in the city. I just want to have one big intervention and rid us of this problem once and for all.

Last night I went to first Thursday... I'll have a report later. I've almost been too busy this week. I will probably collapse on the sofa tonight when I get home.

This weekend I need to work on my gap application and get stuff put together for the Crawl Space website.

Now that I have a new job I'll have to start thinking about finding some space to make artwork - there's just not enough room in the dining room anymore.

Financial Security.

I was offered a job yesterday that I can't pass up. My former boss needs someone to help out in her file room now. I'm starting next Wednesday. She is willing to let me do the things I need to do in regards to my artwork so that is a plus. She's the type of boss that makes you want to work hard. She treats her staff well which is nice. There may be other opportunities to grow there as well.

I'll even get more money. Yay!

Tip of the day... don't burn your bridges because you never know when you will need to cross back (that should be published somewhere don't you think?).

Tonight is First Thursday and I'm ready and raring to go. Also I didn't mention it last week but Lost is back on the air which is good. Now I just have to manage to get home by 9:00. It shouldn't be a problem...

With a new job and all I might even be able to pay my student loans and have money for rent. eventually

Don't Panic!

When I tell you that I went to they gym both last night AND this morning.

Now that you've all picked yourselves up off the floor I'll continue. I've decided I need to whittle down the thighs - the only way to do that (besides liposuction) is by working out. I will never have firm thighs if I just sit on my ass all the time.

This Saturday is Katie's Birthday - Today is her actual birthday though... she's one. There are going to be about 17 children under 7 here... now that's how I spell fun!

Tonight after work I am going to First Thursday... I'm not sure what shows are up but I'm sure I'll find something to like. I just have to remember to look cute... The fleet is in town as well! hmmmm... Sailors.

Ummm...

I'm thinking that maybe I won't eat everything in sight today. I will try to keep everything in check... I will not let anxiety rule my life, I will not let other people bring me down...

Maybe I'll try to find a leash today and take Tucker out for a walk. She doesn't like to go on walks - she will just wait there until you drag her. She makes a good dust mop.

Last night at first Thursday was pretty low key. I saw a few things that I liked - Ron Lambert at the Catherine Person Gallery was pretty interesting. He works with video in sculptures.... there were some nice plaster forms with mylar and inkjet prints... the craftsmanship was nice.

The show at SOIL was called Crud. I will have to go back an look again at it... I think I liked it though.

When I was walking through the galleries I was trying to envision where my work might fit and I haven't quite figured that out yet. Actually my work will fit into Crawl Space just fine I think... I have to set up a studio visit with them.

Okay - it's official. This is my last week of sitting on my ass feeling sorry for myself. I have to start working again and applying for things. Two weeks is long enough for having a pitty party / vacation.

Okay, I feel better.
